Saleena subaiya, MD MSc
Dr. Subaiya is a psychedelic researcher and physician living in New York City. They have extensive experience with the administration of ketamine for mood disorders, addiction, pain, and anxiety related to chronic illness. Their research focuses on ayahuasca, ketamine, and DMT and their effects on mental health outcomes and Long COVID. They are an Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Department of Psychiatry, and are a board-certified emergency medicine physician with over a decade of clinical experience.
A core tenant of their work with psychedelics is individualized care, crafted through Western Medicine and the wisdom and study of non-appropriated ancient healing practices. This includes optimizing physical health through holistic means, tailoring set and setting, and creating a psychedelic integration plan that is unique to each person.
Dr. Subaiya has a deep, personal practice of Indigenous ceremony and healing, yoga, mindfulness, and sound healing, which they incorporate into their practice of medicine and everyday life.
PHILOSOPHY
Dr. Subaiya has spent over a decade working in emergency departments, caring for those who are critically ill and fighting in the COVID-19 pandemic. Through these experiences, they have learned the benefits of preventive care; and also, the hard truth that we simply cannot prevent everything.
Their time spent with critically ill patients and those facing end-of-life inspired them to help support others to live as fully as possible. It is this tenant that drives their work with ketamine.
In a rapidly expanding field, Dr. Subaiya believes that evidence-based care is paramount to the safe practice of medicine. They have spent nearly 2-decades in the field of research, and are committed to a philosophy of life-long education as new discoveries are made daily in the field of psychedelic care.
